Suit the Groom – Vintage Wedding Photography

This shoot has been a long time a’coming! We had this idea to do a shoot just for the men out there to give them ideas of clothing options, groomsmen gifts, shoes, etc. for their big day and about a year later here we are finally shooting and posting it. Our busy lives have had us on the go constantly for the past year that we never had time to dedicate to this shoot like we really wanted…not until now that is! After shooting several years of weddings, Whitney and I noticed a growning trend…a lack of time and effort put into what the groom wears for the wedding. Why is this? When he’s the other main 1/2 of the reason for the celebration in the first place? So we teamed up with the fabulous Madeline at Finery here in Huntsville and she collaborated with us to bring you an ultra manly, super classy and not to mention down right handsome shoot! Let’s say goodbye to the old boxy tuxedo and see what other options lie outside of the “traditional” and “safe” approach to men’s attire on a day that is just as much important to them as it is their lovely bride. After all ladies, these guys will be standing beside you in the photos you take all day, and not only that but you’ll be looking back at these for the years to come. The reality of our jobs kicked in a few months ago when we stumbled across Whitney’s parent’s wedding album. So there we were immersed in this album full of yellow and orange toned photos…admiring how young everyone was (after all this is over 30 years old people!) and how much the haircuts, clothing and even the photography itself has changed from those days to now. I don’t know why this is the first time I realized how infinite our photos are and how in 30 years someone would be looking at the photos we took of their mom and dad…and possibly thinking the same thing about the clothing and hair! haha…or maybe by then what we’re wearing now will be back in style again? Now there’s some food for thought! 🙂

Anyways, with that being said we really wanted to give couples some fun ideas for what they can do to spice up their groom and groomsmen clothing for the day of so here we sat…Madeline, Whitney, and myself as we gathered ideas for exactly how we wanted the shoot to feel and decided what vendors we really wanted to showcase. You can see a complete list of the vendors below BTW! 🙂 Most everything you see below is handmade by vendors in the south, minus the occasional Urban Outfitter shoe and such. When designing this we thought the following: americanna, southern, whiskey, timeless, Billy Reid meets Ralph Lauren, etc. And we definitely wanted to give you guys some great ideas for groomsmen gifts too…from custom etched glass flasks, to handmade leather wallets and belts, to custom printed glasses. Hope this inspires you and entertains you and you get a nice little glimpse into the world of Glass Jar and Finery mashups. 😉

Signing off for now!
Bethany…(and Whitney in spirit haha)
